I was cutting a hole for a new kitchen sink and hit a water line

I was under my counter in the kitchen yesterday, using my DeWalt oscillating tool to cut the countertop. I thought I knew where the pipes were, but I hit a copper line and water sprayed everywhere. I had to shut off the main valve fast, then spent the next hour soldering a patch on the line. Has anyone else had a close call like that with hidden plumbing?

A stud finder with a pipe detector saved me from a similar disaster last month!

Yeah, those combo tools are a game changer. @thea515, your post reminded me of the time I was just trying to hang a shelf and my old basic stud finder went off everywhere. Turns out the whole wall was laced with old, thin metal conduit from some weird 70s rewire. Ended up having to get one of those fancy detectors you mentioned just to find a safe spot. Felt like I was defusing a bomb, not doing a simple DIY project.

My buddy had the exact same thing happen, @thea515. His place is all old wiring and he basically gave up and used command strips for everything. Maybe it's just me but that feels like tempting fate.
