Yeah @jackson.wesley, it's a weird phrase but it makes sense. Wood soaks up water like a sponge, that's why it warps when it gets wet. Saying it "drinks" is just a colorful way to describe how fast it absorbs liquids. Basically, dry wood pulls in moisture really quickly. That's why you have to seal it or it gets damaged.
