PSA: Watching a machinist set up his table at a trade show in Denver fixed my tool indexing
I was at the Denver Build Expo last month and stopped to watch an old guy set up his drafting table. He marked every 3 inches with a sharpie on the edge and it saved him 10 minutes per layout. Has anyone else tried marking your rulers or tables like that?

Watch a guy with a sharpie and suddenly you're doing permanent marker calligraphy on all your tools. Next thing you know you'll be timestamping your lunch breaks with a tape measure.

Same thing happened to me at work last month. One of the older guys showed me how he labels his socket sets with color coded dots using a paint marker and now I'm over here writing the date on every box of screws that comes through. It's a slippery slope for sure. Pretty soon I had my whole tool chest looking like a scrapbook project with all these little notes and arrows everywhere. Now I can't leave a single tool unmarked even if I know I'll never lose it.
