That old foreman's advice about packing the cutterhead saved my back today
I was running a 12-inch hydraulic dredge on a pond job near Greenville and started hitting some really thick clay. About 20 minutes in I remembered what old Mike told me 3 years ago, always slow the swing speed and let the cutterhead work through the material instead of forcing it. I listened to him and the whole job went smooth, no jams and the pump stayed clear. Has anyone else had an old timer give them advice that actually paid off on a tough day?

Old timers dig in clay all day, you must be running that swing wrong.

Hate to hear you had a rough go of it, but good on you for listening to Mike. It is a real blessing when someone's hard-won wisdom saves you from a miserable day.
