This homeowner in Boise told me to just 'mud over' a half inch gap around a window

I was doing a repair in a 70s house and they said they saw it on a DIY show, but that's a sure way to get cracks in a year. I had to explain how you need to tape and fill it right, not just slap compound on a big hole. Has anyone else had to talk a client out of a really bad idea they got from TV?

Ever think about how those shows never film a follow-up a year later? They'd have to show all the cracks and callbacks. It's the missing part that makes people think quick fixes actually work.

Totally agree with @finleybutler, real change takes way longer than a TV episode.
