Vent: Took a customer's complaint about elevator noise way too personal until I fixed it

Had a lady at a 12-story office building in Denver keep calling about a grinding sound. I kept telling her it was fine, just normal wear. She finally said 'listen, my kid can hear that thing from the parking lot.' That stung. So I actually pulled the door tracks and found a tiny piece of broken roller guide pin wedged in there. Now I check every single track on any job, even if the sound seems minor. Anyone else ever ignore a complaint and then feel dumb later?

Classic case of pride getting in the way. Respect for actually going back and fixing it though.

Oh, I used to be the complete opposite on this. For years I thought if you went back and fixed your mistakes, it somehow made you look weaker like you didnt know what you were doing in the first place. But after watching a few coworkers really own up to their errors and make things right, it hit me that its actually a sign of confidence. People respect you more when you admit you were wrong and then actually do something about it.
