I always thought a dark roof made a house hotter, but my neighbor's place proved me wrong
I was helping my neighbor in Charlotte with some yard stuff and his house stays way cooler than mine, even with a black metal roof. He told me it's because of the special coating that reflects heat, something he found on a building science forum. I looked it up and it's called a 'cool roof' coating, and it can cut attic heat by almost 20 degrees. Anyone else seen this kind of thing work in a hot area?

That "cool roof" thing shows how looks can be so deceiving.

Actually seems like a pretty smart idea to me.
