Just make it look expensive" on that budget is like asking for a sports car but only having scooter money. Did she want you to sprinkle gold dust on everything or just hope people wouldn't look too close? Setting a clear budget from the start saves everyone from that kind of awkward talk later.

How do you even start that conversation without sounding rude? I had a client ask for "luxury" centerpieces but only wanted to spend like twenty bucks each, and it just sets you up to fail. Some people really don't get what things cost.

Start by showing them a few real photos at their budget, like @the_patricia said, so they see what "expensive" actually costs. It saves the headache later when they're not picturing something totally different.
