Choosing between a modern serif and a classic one for a local coffee shop menu
I was designing a menu for a new cafe in Portland and got stuck between using Playfair Display or Baskerville for the headings. I went with Baskerville because it felt warmer and more inviting, which matched their vibe better. The owner loved it and said customers kept complimenting the look. Has anyone else had to pick between two similar serifs for a food project?

Oh man, the great font debate. Honestly, picking Baskerville was the right call, it's like choosing a comfy chair over a cool looking metal stool. People want to relax with their coffee, not feel like they're in a lab.

Totally get being stuck between two good choices. Picking the warmer font was a smart move for a cafe vibe. Glad the owner and customers loved it

Actually the cooler font would have been better for a cafe. It looks more clean and modern, which a lot of people like these days. A warmer font can feel a bit messy or old fashioned to some customers. I see what you mean @river183, but going for a sleek look helps a place stand out instead of just feeling cozy. That modern style could have drawn in a whole different crowd.
