Font pairing sites keep suggesting the same tired combos

I spent all morning trying to find a good match for this poster I'm making, and every site just throws out Helvetica with Garamond or something similar. I mean, it feels like there's no real help for when you want something a bit different. Maybe it's just me, but when I pick a fun display font, the tools always pair it with a plain one that kills the mood. For example, I had this cool bold type for the title, but the suggested body text made everything look dull. It's like the system is built for safe choices, not creative ones. I just want ideas that actually spark something new for my work.

Ever try just picking two fonts you like and forcing them to work? I had a bold slab serif headline that felt dead with basic sans, so I tried a condensed grotesque for body text. The tight lettershapes played off the chunky title in a weird cool way. Sometimes you gotta ignore the tools and just test combos until something clicks, even if it breaks "rules".

Man, my buddy did something like that for a menu redesign. He paired a really playful script with a super plain mono font, and the weird clash just worked.
