Warning: I saw a freelancer get burned on a contract at a co-working space in Tampa.

I was at The Hive last week and overheard a guy arguing with a client because his project scope had tripled with no extra pay. He only had a handshake deal, no written contract at all. How do you guys handle scope creep in your own freelance agreements?

Always get a detailed contract signed before starting any work.

Solid advice from lilyt90. Learned that lesson the hard way after a handshake deal went south. Now a signed contract is non-negotiable.

Oh man, I totally used to think handshake deals were fine too (like being nice was enough to keep things fair). But hearing stories like that changed my mind real quick. Now I'm all about getting everything in writing before I start.
