After messing with my new camera lens, I can't decide if reviews should focus on charts or chatter.
Is it better when reviews give hard data or when they share how a gadget fits into daily life?

Given my talent for misunderstanding charts, I rely on the chatter to pretend I know what I'm buying. It hasn't helped my photography much.

Honestly it's just a camera lens, not a life choice. People get so deep about bokeh and chromatic aberration. You can take a good photo with a kit lens if you know what you're doing. All this chatter about specs and real world tests feels like overthinking it. Just go take some pictures and see if you like them.

Honestly that 50mm f/1.8 lens I bought last year had perfect sharpness charts, but the autofocus hunted so bad in low light it missed half my kid's soccer game. Charts don't show that. Tbh I need both. Tell me the megapixels and distortion numbers, but then show me photos of how the lens flare looks at sunset or if the focus ring feels cheap. A review that only talks about daily life without the specs is just a story, but specs without real world testing are just a math test.
