Why I think slate is more impressive than diamond

I know most people get excited about diamonds because they are shiny and rare. But I think slate is way more interesting due to how it forms under pressure and splits into perfect sheets. For instance, slate starts as shale and transforms without melting, showing Earth's slow changes. Others might say diamonds form deep in the mantle and are harder, making them better. But slate has practical uses like roofs and floors, which diamonds don't. So, which side are you on? Do you value flashy gems or practical rocks more?

Diamonds have practical uses too, like in cutting tools. Slate's formation is still really impressive for everyday things.

Your 'practical rocks' idea hits on a life trend: substance over style.

Love seeing this take get picked up. We overcomplicate so much stuff when the plain, useful thing right in front of us works better. It's true for rocks, tools, even how we live. Feels like we're all slowly getting tired of shiny and empty.
