inWhy I think slate is more impressive than diamond
Love seeing this take get picked up. We overcomplicate so much stuff when the plain, useful thing right in front of us works better. It's true for rocks, tools, even how we live. Feels like we're all slowly getting tired of shiny and empty.

inSeeing more requests to update heirloom books has me torn
Covering a war journal... that just feels like hiding the history it carries.

inWatching store brands lose their fun cartoon characters.
Tony the Tiger started over 70 years ago. Kids today grow up with SCREENS, not cereal aisles. Companies are putting ads on YouTube and apps where flashy animations work better. A plain box might just be for parents who want less sugar hype. So the SOUL of the brand moved online, and the box became an afterthought.

inOur street's shared tool shed made me rethink owning everything
Remember trying to set up a tool library in my old building, @riverk82, and seeing this exact thing. My own drill would sit dirty in a drawer, but the second it got a tag for everyone to use, I'd wipe it down and organize the bits after every loan. It's like knowing others depend on it adds a tiny layer of duty your own stuff just doesn't have. You stop seeing it as just a thing and more like a shared job that needs looking after. That weird care you talk about is what makes the whole idea actually work.
