Appreciation post: fired my worst client and added $4k/month in 3 weeks
I finally did the thing everyone talks about but nobody actually does. Let go of a client back in January who paid $3,200/month but took up 60% of my team's time with endless revisions and 11pm Slack messages. I was scared. That was our biggest retainer. But here's what I kept seeing other agency owners get wrong: they think keeping a bad client is safer than having an open slot. It's not. Within three weeks of dropping them, we closed two smaller clients at $2k each who barely need any hand holding, and my lead designer actually stopped looking at job boards. The weird part is our output on other accounts got better too because nobody was stuck in that one dumpster fire anymore. If you're sitting on a client that makes you dread Mondays, do the math on what they actually cost you in team hours. Curious if anyone else has done this and what happened after.
