My sister told me my chicken wings looked 'sad' and she was right

Last month I was bragging to my sister about my air fryer wings and she just looked at me and said 'they look sad, like they gave up on life.' I was kinda offended at first but then I looked at them and she was right. They were all pale and shriveled because I was cooking them at 350 for 18 minutes like the manual said. So I bumped it up to 400 degrees and added a little cornstarch to the dry rub and now they actually get crispy and brown. The difference is night and day honestly. She came over last weekend and ate like 12 of them without saying a word. Has anyone else gotten a reality check from a family member about your cooking?

Got a text from my mom last year with a picture of my chili and it just said "this looks like prison food". I was irate until I zoomed in and saw I'd used way too much tomato paste and it was this weird thick brick red color with no beans visible. Added some beef broth and a can of black beans the next time and it actually looked like chili instead of something from a cafeteria. She still hasn't apologized for the text though.

Cornstarch is the real MVP here. I started doing that with my drumsticks and it was a game changer, plus patting them dry with paper towels first helps a ton too. Your sister might have been brutal but she did you a favor honestly.
