Spent two whole days chasing a phantom hydraulic leak on a King Air, turned out to be a $3 O-ring on the reservoir cap vent

I mean, I had the whole belly panel off, fluid everywhere, checking every line and fitting. Pressure tests kept showing a slow drop. My lead was getting on my case about the hangar time. Finally, just on a hunch, I looked at the stupid filler cap assembly. The vent path goes through this little O-ring that was totally flattened and cracked. Swapped it in five minutes. Has anyone else had a simple part like that waste a huge chunk of your week? I feel like the manuals never point you to check the obvious cheap stuff first.

Right? It's like life in general always gets you with the tiny, cheap stuff while you're off chasing the big complicated problem. A loose battery cable in my car did the same thing once, had me ready to swap alternators.

Read an A&P blog that said O-rings cause 60% of phantom leaks.
