A comment about filler arcs changed how I watch seasonal shows

Back in March a guy in the weekly thread said I was missing the point by skipping episode 6 of that new mecha show. He pointed out that the 'filler' episode was actually setting up a character motivation that paid off two arcs later. Now I try to give every episode at least one full watch before I judge it, even if the pacing feels slow at first. Has anyone else had a single forum comment flip their whole viewing approach?

Ugh, hard disagree there. Skipping episodes is fine. I skip all the time. That guy just wanted to feel smart about a show. Good writing works even if you miss a setup episode. If a payoff only works because of a "filler" episode, then the payoff is weak. I dropped that mecha show after three episodes. Zero regrets.
