Dub or sub for comedy shows, wait I found a stat that broke my brain
So I was digging through some fan wiki last night, not even intentionally, and saw that a certain popular comedy anime's dub actually adds like 20 extra jokes per episode compared to the sub, some of them completely improvised by the VAs. I always assumed sub was the 'pure' version, but apparently the localization team had a ton of freedom to punch up the gags. Now I'm torn. Does that make the dub the better version for comedy specifically, or does it just mean it's not a faithful adaptation? I checked three different episode comparisons on YouTube and the dub got more laughs in every single one from the comment sections. Has anyone else swapped sides on this after seeing actual numbers or clips, or am I overthinking a silly medium?
