That talk with a guy at Anime Expo 2022 changed my take on dubs

I used to be one of those 'subs only' people hardcore, but then I sat next to this older guy named Dave at a panel in LA. He told me he got into anime through the English dub of Cowboy Bebop back in 2001 because he has bad eyesight and can't read subs fast. Hearing how dubs literally opened up the whole hobby for him made me realize I was just gatekeeping for no reason. Has anyone else had a random conversation that totally flipped your stance on something?

Dubs still miss way too much of the original intent.
