Customer told me my dryer vent install was "a fire waiting to happen" - they were right

Guy calls me back after I replaced his dryer vent hose last month. Says he smelled burning plastic and found the new hose was kinked behind the dryer. I used that cheap foil stuff (you know, the $8 roll from Home Depot). He sent me a photo and yeah, it was all folded up and trapping lint. I switched to that semi-rigid metal stuff ($22 per section) and made sure every turn was smooth. No more issues. Has anyone else had bad luck with the foil vents? I thought they were standard.

Man that foil stuff is basically just fancy aluminum foil with glue on it!

Nah there's actually a big difference between that radiant barrier foil and regular aluminum foil. The stuff made for attics has a special coating that reflects like 95% of radiant heat, whereas plain foil from the kitchen reflects maybe half that. Plus the installation tapes and fasteners are way more heavy duty than what you'd use for wrapping sandwiches. It's also thicker and holds up better against temperature swings in an attic.
