Had a washer flood a customer's basement last Tuesday - what a mess

I was swapping out a drain pump on a Samsung washer in Columbus, and forgot to clamp the hose back on tight. Turned the water on to test it and within 30 seconds there was 2 inches of water on the floor. The homeowner was watching me the whole time too, real awkward. I ended up using a shop vac and a bunch of towels to clean it up, took me almost an hour. Has anyone else had a moment where a simple mistake turned into a huge cleanup job?

You mentioned turning the water on to test the drain pump, but if it was the drain pump you were swapping, you'd normally test it by running a drain cycle, not just turning the supply water on. That little detail makes me wonder if you were actually replacing a water inlet valve instead.

Wait, did you ever see that thing happen to my buddy Dave? He was swearing up a storm in his laundry room for like two hours because he thought he was replacing the drain pump, but he'd actually yanked out the water inlet valve by mistake. Same kind of mix-up - he just turned the water on to test it and got so confused when nothing drained until a neighbor pointed out he had the wrong part.
