My block has a serious dryer vent clog problem this spring.

I've had three calls this week from neighbors on my street about dryers not heating up. In each case, the vent hose is packed with lint because no one cleans it out. It's such a basic thing to check.

Actually, could be the heating element too.

That or the thermal fuse, same symptoms really.

Okay, but if both have the same symptoms, how do you narrow it down? For example, if the dryer runs but doesn't heat, it could be either. Is there a way to test the thermal fuse with a multimeter? I heard the heating element can short out, but the fuse might just be blown from overheating. Which one fails more often in your experience? Trying to fix mine without throwing parts at it.
