My trowel snapped in half during a dig near Tucson yesterday

I was scraping back a layer of soil near a suspected hearth feature and the handle just cracked clean off my WHS trowel. Been using it for maybe 4 years. Had to use a wooden stake for the rest of the afternoon. Anyone else had a tool fail on them mid-excavation? What did you switch to?

Switched to a Marshalltown after mine snapped the same way. Never looked back.

Oh man, I gotta disagree with you there @cameron_craig! I actually had the exact opposite experience - my Marshalltown snapped on me during a pretty normal job, and I switched back to the cheaper brand. Maybe I got a bad one or something, but it felt like the handle just wasn't as solid for the kind of abuse I put it through. I know a lot of people swear by them, but for me the old one just held up better over time. Different strokes for different folks, I guess, but I'll take my chances with the one that didn't let me down.
