Rant: the guided tour at Chaco Canyon totally glossed over the astronomy stuff
I stood there for 20 minutes staring at the petroglyphs on the north wall of Pueblo Bonito and the guide barely mentioned how the sun hits those spirals exactly at solstice, has anyone else been to a site where they just ignore the obvious celestial alignments?

Wait, they seriously skipped over the solstice sun dagger stuff? That's like the whole reason people drive 5 hours on dirt roads to get there. I remember standing at the same spot and watching the light creep across the spiral for a solid 15 minutes, nobody said a word.

Yeah, "nobody said a word" is spot on... I had a similar thing happen at Mesa Verde once, not the dagger but just sitting in a kiva at sunset. @logan_schmidt, it's like the quiet makes the whole thing hit harder. I remember some guy next to me started crying, just silent tears, and nobody even looked at him. That kind of stillness is rare.
