My $80 air file damaged a fender, check yours before use
Picked up an air file from a pawn shop in Phoenix, saved cash over new. Ran it on a fender last Friday and the pad was uneven, left a 6 inch gouge in the clear coat. Cost me 2 hours and extra filler to fix. Anyone else had a used tool bite them like this?

Did the same thing happen to you with a used tool before you even got a chance to check it over? I grabbed a used DA sander off marketplace last year and the backing pad was warped to hell. It chewed up a door panel on a truck I was repainting and I had to sand the whole thing back down and start over. That was a full day gone plus a can of primer wasted. Now I spin every used tool by hand first and look at the pad before it ever touches paint. Cheap tools are fine, but you gotta check them or they will eat your work every time.
