Spent $80 on a infrared thermometer and it already paid for itself

Had a car come in with a weird paint peel near the exhaust and I couldnt figure out why until I checked surface temps before spraying. Found out the panel was hitting 140 degrees after a test drive, way too hot for primer to stick. Anyone else use temp guns on repairs or am I just late to the party?

The heat soak from the exhaust can mess with more than just paint though. Had a buddy use one on a used hybrid he was flipping and found the battery pack was cooking at 160 degrees after a short drive cause the cooling fan died. Saved him from buying a whole new battery pack just cause he knew when to stop driving it. Temp guns are basically cheat codes for catching hidden heat damage that most people miss until its too late.

Came in clutch for me last month on a used car I was flipping. Spent $60 on one and found out the trunk lid was cooking at 130 degrees after a sunny morning, no wonder the clearcoat was bubbling
