Tried a cheap da sander from harbor freight and it actually lasted 8 months

Picked up one of those $30 dual action sanders on a whim last January just for a small fender job. Thing is still running smooth after 200+ hours of blocking and sanding. Anyone else have a budget tool that surprised them?

My first one locked up after 3 months. Threw the pad right off the backing plate at 10k rpm. Maybe they fixed them since I bought mine, but I wouldn't trust that thing for production work.

10k rpm? Sounds like you got the free "frag grenade" upgrade. Must be their new quick-release feature for pads. Real efficient. Makes you wonder if they test these things at all. My buddy had one seize up on a soft start. Just locked solid mid cut. Spent an hour trying to get the arbor loose. But hey. Could be worse. Could have been a 14 inch blade coming off. At least you only lost a pad and a weekend. Good times.
