Had a customer at my shop in Tacoma tell me his old truck's engine noise was 'just singing the blues' and it made me look at diagnostics differently | Auto Mechanics - The Design Community Hub
Used to get so hung up on chasing down every single rattle and ping, treating them like problems to be solved. That phrase really flips it around, doesn't it? Some of those noises are just the machine's character, a sign it's working hard and has a history. Makes you wonder how much we fix that doesn't really need fixing.
That's such a good way to put it... you can drive yourself crazy trying to silence every little noise a machine makes. My truck has this weird whistle at highway speeds and I used to think it was broken, but now I figure it's just how she breathes. Definitely makes you step back and wonder how many "fixed" things actually worked fine the whole time.
