Just realized how much cleaner avionics bays are now vs 10 years ago
I pulled an old 737 panel from a 2008 build last week and it looked like a disaster zone compared to the newer stuff coming through our shop in Denver. The real change is these pre-terminated harnesses from companies like TE Connectivity. Back in the day we were soldering half these connections on the line and it showed. Has anyone else noticed the before-and-after difference with these factory assemblies?

Read about Boeing switching to those harnesses last year. Makes a huge difference.

actually I think you might be mixing up a couple different things. Boeing's been using those harnesses for way longer than last year, they started testing them back around 2019 or 2020 from what I remember reading. the real change that happened last year was with the connectors themselves, they switched to a different locking mechanism after some issues with vibration loosening them up. still a big deal though, the harnesses cut down on all that tangled wiring mess in the fuselage and make maintenance way easier. saved them a ton of weight too which is always good for fuel efficiency. just wanted to clear that up cause I've been following this stuff pretty closely.
