The John Muir Trail changed how I plan routes, and I'm not sure I like it
I hiked the John Muir Trail back in 2019 and it was all about big mile days and pushing through. Now I mostly do shorter loops in the Rockies and I've noticed I plan way more zero days and side trips. Last month I did a 3 day loop near Estes Park and spent 4 hours just sitting at a lake. Part of me misses the grind but part of me thinks the scenery is better when I slow down. Has anyone else gone from thru hiking to short trips and felt this shift?
