Changed my mind about backyard fire pits after visiting a neighbor's place in Nashville
I always thought fire pits were just for roasting marshmallows and making your yard smell like smoke, but I stopped by my neighbor Dave's place last Saturday and he had this little gas fire table with a mesh screen and some gravel around it. It was actually super clean, no smoke smell at all, and the whole vibe was really relaxing for just sitting around and talking. Has anyone else switched from wood to gas and noticed a big difference?

You know what's funny about that? It reminds me of how we all get stuck thinking something has to be one way because that's how it's always been done. Like how my dad still insists on using a flip phone because he thinks smartphones are too complicated, but then I showed him how to text with voice and he was like "oh, this is actually easier." Same thing with cooking - I used to think grilling meant charcoal only, but my buddy got one of those gas grills with the ceramic burners and it heats up in like 5 minutes flat. The gas fire table thing is probably the same deal, people just get used to the old way and don't realize there's a cleaner version that does the same job.
