Finally got my workbench organized after 3 years of junk piling up
Spent last Saturday clearing out the garage and actually sorting all those random screws and bolts into labeled jars, and it feels like I can actually work on something without digging through crap for 20 minutes - anyone else have a messy garage that just got out of control?

Oh man, the "finally got my workbench organized" part hit me right in the gut. Took me a whole weekend last month just to sort out a pile of random nuts and bolts from old projects that had been sitting in a box for like two years.

Started sorting my bolts into old peanut butter jars last year. @amy302 I labeled each jar with a sharpie so it shows through the plastic, makes finding the right size way faster than digging through a mixed pile. It was a pain to set up but now I just grab the jar I need instead of wasting time hunting.

the "sorting nuts and bolts from old projects" part reminded me of something my buddy Mike went through last year. He had this huge coffee can full of random hardware that had been sitting on his workbench since like 2015. He finally dumped it all out on the driveway one Saturday and spent the whole afternoon separating everything into those little plastic compartment boxes from Harbor Freight. Took him forever because half the stuff was rusted together from sitting in the can for years. But now every time I go over there he brags about how he can find the exact screw he needs in ten seconds flat. Still makes me laugh how proud he is of something that simple.
