I finally get why my dad never threw out old lawnmower parts
Had a talk with a guy at the dump last weekend who was scavenging a broken mower deck. He said he's kept every pulley and blade for 20 years and never bought a new part once. Made me think about the stack of old engines in my garage that I've been calling junk.

My uncle still runs a 1987 Toro with original belts.

That "with original belts" part is wild. I had a 1988 Toro that I swear still had the factory belts when I got rid of it like 5 years ago. @ross.jessica, tell your uncle to keep an eye on those belts though. They get hard and start slipping even if they don't break. I finally swapped mine after a deck belt snapped on me mid summer and left me finishing with a weed whacker. If they're still going strong, that's impressive no doubt. Just have a spare set handy for when they finally give out because it always happens at the worst time.
