My garage workshop went from chaos to actually usable after I built a French cleat system
I always saw those fancy French cleat walls online and thought it was just hype for people with too much time. But last month I finally got sick of tripping over my tools in my 12x20 garage here in Ohio. Spent a Saturday and about $60 on plywood to make the cleats and holders. Now every single tool has a spot on the wall and I actually know where my socket set is at all times. Has anyone else tried building one and had it change their whole workflow?

A good organization system changes everything, not just in a workshop but in how you approach the whole day. It's a simple thing, but having a place for every tool means you spend less time searching and more time actually getting work done. I've noticed the same pattern in my own garage and even around the house. Once you get that one spot straightened out, it seems like everything else feels a little less cluttered too. It's like your brain can relax knowing the chaos is contained to one wall instead of spread across the whole room. That sixty bucks probably saved you hours of frustration already.

You know, I used to think spending money on tool organization was just a fancy way to burn cash, like buying a fancy toolbox when a cardboard box worked fine. But my buddy finally convinced me to get a pegboard setup for my little workbench last month, and I’m kicking myself for waiting so long. The time I used to spend digging through piles of wrenches and screwdrivers, I now spend actually fixing things or just having a few minutes to sit down. That little bit of structure really did calm my brain down more than I expected, like the whole room feels less messy even if there's laundry piled up on the other side.
