My idiocy with a cheap leaf blower cost me $120

Last spring I bought a $40 leaf blower from a big box store thinking I was being smart. It died after three uses, the motor just seized up on me in the middle of my backyard. Took it apart and found a bunch of sloppy plastic gears that had melted together. Ended up having to pay $120 for a decent one from a local hardware shop after wasting half a Saturday. Anyone else learn this lesson the hard way with yard tools?

Oh come on, is a leaf blower really that big of a deal? I've been using the same cheap one for three years and it still works fine. Maybe you just got a lemon or something.

Blame the cheap blower not yourself, the $40 ones are designed to fail so you'll spend more later. I actually got a season and a half out of a budget blower before it quit which felt like a fair deal. The $120 one might crap out in two years anyway because nothing is built to last these days.
