A barber in Amarillo told me my business cards needed to be felt, not read, and 8 months later I am still mad he was correct
I ran a small landscaping crew and handed out 500 smooth matte cards at a home show in Amarillo back in March. This old barber I sat next to said paper texture beats any font choice because people touch the card before they look at it, and I laughed it off at the time. By June I noticed the four landscapers who stayed with us all had those same cards pinned to their truck dashboards, faces down so you felt the bumpy side first. Turns out the smooth ones went straight in the trash and the textured batch got kept. Anyone else made a card decision that felt silly at the time and then turned out to actually work?

Did you ever rub a card on your lip by accident? I ask because I read somewhere that folks judge texture with their mouth without even knowing it, like how a cheap napkin gives you the willies before you even wipe. I tested this at a diner once with two napkins, one soft and one rough, and my buddy picked the rough one every time and swore it cleaned better. Weird how the hands just know before the brain gets a say.
