Ngl I compared my hand-coded site to one made with a template and the template loaded faster than mine
Spent 2 nights rebuilding my freelance portfolio by hand with clean HTML and CSS, then ran a speed test next to my old Elementor version from 2022 and the template beat me by 1.8 seconds on mobile. Turns out all my fancy custom fonts and 7 different Google Font weights were dragging everything down while the basic template just used system fonts. Has anyone here gone back to a page builder after swearing off them, or did you find a middle ground?

My buddy Dave ran into the same thing last spring with his photography site. He had like 5 font files loading and once he cut it down to 2 system-ish fonts his mobile score jumped from 62 to 91 without touching anything else. You probably don't need the builder, just a diet for your fonts and CSS.
