Watched the same signup page go from 11 fields to 3 and completion jumped 40% in two weeks
I redesigned the account form at my last shop by cutting the address and phone fields we never actually used, and signups finished way more often by the second week. The wild part was nobody missed them, we just liked having the data. Anyone else cut fields and later find out sales actually needed one of them?
Cutting unused fields is just good cleanup, it is not some big lesson about data being evil. Sales teams always say they need everything until you ask them to actually pull a report on it. A 40% jump from three fewer boxes sounds more like the form was just annoying before.
