It's a weird design choice that seems more common now. My friend's place has a light switch for the bathroom fan that also controls the hallway outlet. You end up turning off a lamp by accident. It feels like a lack of thought for how people actually live in a space.

I saw an article a couple years ago that said a lot of new builds are doing this because it's cheaper to wire the fan and a random outlet to the same switch than run separate lines. They save maybe 50 bucks per house. It's annoying but builders don't care because they're not the ones living there.
