PSA: I spent $80 on a 'smart' trash can that needs an app to open
Honestly, the battery died after a week and I was stuck with a sealed bin full of garbage, so has anyone else found a normal can that just works?

Oh man, that's the most 2024 problem I've ever heard. They really sold you a trash can that locks you out of your own trash. Tbh, my dumb can from the hardware store has never needed a software update to take out the gross stuff. It feels like we're solving problems that never existed.

Did you see that article about smart appliances having security flaws? It's wild that a trash can could get hacked or stop working because of bad code. We're adding way too many points of failure to basic stuff.

My smart fridge locked me out last week for a "security update" while my milk sat there.
