Hot take: The number of barbers who skip the neck shave prep step is too high

I watched a new guy at the shop in Knoxville give three haircuts last Friday, and he went straight from the clippers to the razor on the neckline every time. He didn't even dampen a towel first. I pulled him aside after his last cut and showed him how I run a hot towel for 90 seconds to soften the hair. It makes the shave cleaner and way more comfortable for the person in the chair. How do you all prep the neck for a shave?

I finally understood why my old glue pot was a problem at the guild meet in Boston.

I was showing a new person how to do a simple repair, and my hide glue kept setting up too fast in the cold room. An older binder saw me struggling and said, 'Kid, that stuff is like a moody cat, it needs a warm lap.' My portfolio site looked like a mess for months until I fixed the fonts

For like 6 months, my homepage had this bold display font paired with a script font that was way too fancy, it just clashed. I finally swapped the script for a simple sans-serif after seeing a clean example on a design blog. The whole page just looks calmer and more professional now, it's a night and day difference. For two years, my desk faced a big window looking over my backyard. I thought the natural light was perfect, but I was always squinting at my screen.
