I've flagged 50 bad logos in 4 months and most of them make the same mistake
Last Tuesday I hit 50 logos in my little phone folder where I save bad ones I see around town. I started it back in March after seeing a plumber's van with a logo so cramped it looked like a smear from across the parking lot. The thing that surprised me is how many of them break the same rule: they only work in full color. I tested 38 of the 50 by printing them in black and white, and 29 turned into blobs or lost the name completely. My design teacher in Chicago drilled this into us years ago and I stopped listening, but now I have the printouts to prove he was right. If you want the club to actually fix your logo, show me a black and white version first, because that is where most of these fall apart.
I did the same thing with a folder of terrible menus, which tells you a lot about how I spend my free time. Printing logos in black and white is the fastest way to catch a design that only looks good on a screen. A logo that turns to mush at that point probably needs a real fix, not just a color tweak.
