TIL a save button on a 12 field form made me lose 40 minutes of typing, not once but twice
I filled out a support ticket on a tax software site last Wednesday, hit save, and a red toast popped up saying 'session expired' with no warning at all. The form cleared itself and there was no autosave, no draft, nothing. I get that security matters, but a simple timer in the corner would have saved me. Why do so many forms still act like losing your work is just something you should expect?
Watching a form wipe itself clean is a special kind of pain. I once lost a whole mortgage application because the site decided my session was over while I was literally typing in the last box. It takes maybe ten lines of code to warn someone or save a draft, so there is no real excuse for it. Companies just don't care because it's not their time getting thrown away.
