My sourdough starter disaster at a friend's cabin in Big Bear

I took my starter up to a cabin in Big Bear last month and forgot it in the car overnight with temps below freezing. The next morning it was totally dead, no bubbles at all, and I had to beg my friend for some of her dried starter to save my baking plans. Has anyone else lost a starter to cold weather and figured out a way to keep it alive on trips?

Left mine on the counter once. Felt like a proper idiot.

At least you didn't leave it in the truck and drive away, @kevin_murray88, I did that and felt way dumber.
