Update: My sourdough stopped being bricks after I changed the rise spot
My bread was coming out hard and flat every time. I moved the dough to a warmer cabinet during rising, and it puffed up nice. What warm spots in your kitchen give the best rise?

Yeah the "just moving it" thing actually worked for my friend Mark. His old radio had terrible static for weeks. He picked it up to throw it out and it cleared up instantly. Turns out the power cord was half out behind his bookcase.

Honestly, that's a pretty small fix for such a big problem. I'm surprised just moving it to a warm spot made that much of a difference. Feels like the kind of simple fix @jennifere18 mentioned, but for bread. My oven with just the light on works, but sometimes it gets too warm.
