Clipper blade caught fire mid-haircut on a Saturday rush

I was working on a fade last month at the shop in Santa Ana when my Andis clipper started smoking and popped a tiny flame out the side. Client was chill about it but I had to finish with my backup clippers which aren't as sharp. Turns out I hadn't oiled the blade in like 3 weeks and hair had caked up inside the motor housing. Has anyone else had a clipper overheat on them during a busy day?

That's wild, @felix478 said the same thing about the wax buildup too, glad your client was chill about it.

Not gonna lie, I had something similar happen when I was cutting my own hair at home last winter. The clipper just got real hot and started smelling like burning plastic. Made me nervous enough to shut everything down and give up on the whole haircut idea. Came back to it the next day and found a glob of old hair wax and dust basically glued to the blade. Had to soak the whole thing in rubbing alcohol to get it clean. Now I make myself oil the clippers every other haircut just so I dont have to relive that panic attack.
