My uncle gave me that same advice after watching me fight with a ladder for ten minutes.

Ever try to climb a ladder with shears on your belt? They always catch on the rung. Keeping them in your back pocket means they're out of the way until you need them. You can grab them fast without looking down. It also keeps the tool belt lighter so it doesn't pull your pants down. That little tip saves a lot of hassle over a long day.
