Finally finished The Wire after 3 tries
Kept quitting season 1. Too slow for me. Third time I forced myself past episode 5. Something clicked. Now I get why everyone calls it the best show ever. Has anyone else had to restart a series multiple times before it stuck?

...and I literally cannot understand why. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm GLAD you finally liked it. But s1 is actually the BEST season in my opinion. All that slow buildup, the chess game with the kids, the whole bureaucratic war with the police department-that's the meat of the show right there. People give up because they want explosions every episode but that's not what The Wire IS. It's a novel for TV. If you need to restart something three times to appreciate it, maybe it's just not for you.

Oh man, people act like it's homework or something. Is it really that deep or just a slow cop show with good accents?
