I jumped on the Stranger Things bandwagon late and honestly, it's kinda overhyped

I started season 1 during spring break last March while stuck inside during a rainy week in Seattle. The first few episodes were solid, but by the time they got to the Demogorgon reveal, I just wasn't feeling the hype everyone talks about. I ended up fast forwarding through most of season 2 and stopped halfway through. Has anyone else felt like it leans too heavy on nostalgia instead of good storytelling?

The show is actually really good at building tension and making you care about the characters. You missed out bailing on season 2, that's when the story really finds its footing.
